MARION - When Marion Athletic Director Mike Chornak announced the weight, "16 pounds, 6 ounces," Goreville's Clayton Craig raised his fists above his head and screamed.
That announcement confirmed what Craig believed to be the obvious, that he and his partner, Andrew Nixon, had taken first place in the Wildcat Invitational Fishing Tournament.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The whale that was stranded in a fishing net off Sandbridge beach on Friday freed itself from the net this weekend.
On Sunday morning, Virginia Marine Police along with the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team and several disentanglement experts went to Sandbridge Sunday morning where the whale was entangled and discovered that it was gone, Joan M. Barns, a spokesperson for the Virginia Aquarium said.
The March 11 tsunami rendered around 90% of the 29,000 fishing boats in the three most severely hit prefectures unusable, according to provisional tallies by the three prefectures.
Reviving the fishing industries in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures is indispensable to rebuilding local economies, so the prefectural governments and local fishing cooperatives are mulling a range of steps, including allowing fishermen to operate boats or breed fish and other marine products collectively, according to officials of the local governments and co-ops.
The Alaska House of Representatives passed House Bill 144, sponsored by Rep. Les Gara, D-Anchorage, which would require the Alaska Department of Natural Resources to submit an annual report on its efforts to maintain and enhance public access to fishing streams. The bill is designed to improve access to fishing spots within the state.
